Snow days!
“Far from the world I walk, and from all care.”
William Wordsworth
Need a break from the grey winter in Geneva? Let’s get above the clouds and into the snow!
Happy to go on the weekends, or relive the joy of “snow days” from our youth during the week. Wait, on second glance, you do seem a bit peaked (or “peak-id” if you’re from where I’m from), some fresh air and melted cheese could be just what the doctor ordered.
Day or night, if there’s snow, we can go!

Snowshoe and fondue
■
For families, couples, teams or friends
Nothing beats a traditional Swiss fondue in the mountains. It’s even better if you get there on snowshoes through the Jura’s beautiful forests and stone walled alpages.
We can go as long or short, fast or slow as you like. Heck, if fondue isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other yummy delights to enjoy in the sun, by the fireplace or on the trail.
Each restaurant has its own local feel, so why not try them all?
-
We will travel over the snow to one of a classic Swiss mountain restaurant for fondue. Depending on your motivation and the snow conditions, we have lots of options to make the journey as sporty or relaxed as you like before and after the fondue. After we eat, we can take a short walk back for half day trips, or continue our exploration for full day trips.
-
We’ll start and finish in La Givrine, above St. Cergue, Switzerland. There are multiple options for yummy traditional food, and we’ll pick the best one for your group and the style of trip you want to have.
-
You will need snowshoes, warm clothing and waterproof boots. I have snowshoes you can rent for CHF 25 (CHF 15 for children) per trip. You’ll want to wear warm clothes in layers so you can adjust as we move. I’ll send a more detailed gear list before we go to make sure you have what you need to stay warm, dry and comfortable.
-
We’ll meet at 9:30 to get geared up and start our walk. For half day trips, we should be back to our departure point by 13:30. For full day trips, we will return no later than 16:30.
-
Half day - CHF 300 for two people. CHF 100 for each additional person (CHF 50 per child).
Full day - CHF 400 for two people. CHF 150 for each additional person.
Price includes trip planning and leadership, fondue (or whatever else you choose to order).
Price does not include transport to and from La Givrine, alcohol at the restaurant, snacks for the day or showshoe rental.
Moonlight snowshoe and fondue
Just because the sun went down, doesn’t mean you can’t get outdoors.
Let’s get above the madness into the mountains after work and hike by moonlight (or headlamp, er, head torch, er frontale…).
We’ll climb gently through alpages or forests on our way to great spots to stargaze, look down on the lake and city lights or just bask in the moonlight on our way to a warm refuge for traditional food and drinks.
Why not go the next full moon or thereabouts?
-
We will travel over the snow to one of a classic Swiss mountain restaurant for fondue and local wine. Depending on the your motivation, the amount of moonlight and the snow conditions, we can go up to a ridge or out into meadows to take in the city lights or the stars. We’ll then head for fondue and a short walk back afterward.

You will need snowshoes, warm clothing and a headlamp (ideally with at least 400 lumens, but with a good moon, we may not even use it). I have snowshoes you can rent for CHF 25 (CHF 15 for children) per trip. You’ll want to wear waterproof boots and warm clothes in layers so you can adjust as we move. I’ll send a more detailed gear list before we go to make sure you have what you need to stay warm, dry and comfortable.
-
We’ll meet at 18:00 and aim to return to where we started by 22:00. If you want to get to the ridge, it could be later or we need to start earlier.

Multi-day and other snowshoe adventures
We’re not limited to the Jura or to only one day. Let me know if you want to get into the Alps or pre-Alps on snowshoes, or if you want to go to a mountain refuge for the night. We can hatch a plan to make the most of these winter days together.
My objective will be to find a route that’s safe, fun and stunning based on your availability, your desires, and the conditions in the mountains.
Let me know what you’re after, and I’ll give you some ideas.
