Hill Yeah!

[ OVERVIEW ]
"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn."

John Muir

Let’s get to the top of something together. In the Alps, it will be a mountain, not a hill, but there are plenty we can summit together without the need of ropes or technical climbing. Let’s do some of those.

Get the sense of accomplishment and amazing views from the top, and earn your beer and rösti we’ll get on the way down. And there are plenty closer to Geneva, too. We can even go after work if you like.

What’s your idea of a fun day getting high? (Up into the mountains, not on the couch! Jeez)

Let me know and I’ll give you some ideas of where we can go.

What to expect

Burning legs and big smiles

Any time you’re hiking to the top of something in Switzerland, it will take effort. You will always be rewarded for the effort with great views and a genuine sense of accomplishment.

  • Getting to the top of anything in Switzerland requires at least moderate fitness, and some even more. As with all of our trips, we will find a summit that is within your ability. Any summit hike will be demanding, so the more fit you are, the easier it will be.

  • Close to Geneva, there are great summits in the Jura. These can be a good workout for anyone, but are also good first summits in Switzerland if you are new to the sport. For day trips, we can also find good mountains to hike to the top of in the Pre-Alps and Valais if we’re willing to get an early start. Overnight trips open up even more options in Valais and the Bernese Alps.

  • The exact amount of elevation we will climb depends on the summit and starting point we choose. This can range from 500 meters or so in the Jura to 1500 meters in the Alps, with lots of options in between. We will discuss the route and elevation gain when we select the best hill to climb together.

  • No. All of the summits we would do for Hill yeah! trips will be hikes, not climbs. There may be some exposed parts of the trail, and these sections may or may not have a fixed rope to hold on to, but we will not use or need to use climbing or via ferrata equipment.

  • For Hill Yeah! trips, I suggest keeping it light. For sure bring sturdy hiking shoes, non-cotton layers and a waterproof raincoat, at least one liter of water and snacks. I’ll send a more detailed packing list before the trip. I’ll cater it to the exact trip we’ll do and weather and trail conditions we can expect on the hike.

  • There are many different ways to train for going uphill. My advice is to choose the ones you will actually do. I like throwing extra weight in my backpack for everyday walks and running errands in town. I choose to take the stairs instead of elevators whenever possible, and I try to walk up hills whenever I get the chance. For more detailed advice, ask your doctor or trainer, or check out the millions of videos online about training for hikes that have big elevation gains and choose some that work for you.
